The finishing stage, where you drink
A reverse osmosis system pushes water through a membrane fine enough to reject most dissolved contaminants, then stores the result in a small tank under the sink and delivers it through its own faucet. It typically removes the large majority of dissolved solids, including lead, arsenic, nitrates, fluoride, sodium, PFAS and pharmaceutical residue, which conventional filtration leaves behind.
It is deliberately a point-of-use system. Running RO for the whole house would waste water and strip minerals from water you only use to flush and wash. Under the sink, feeding the kitchen tap and the fridge line, it treats the few litres a day that matter.
RO works best on water that has already been softened and dechlorinated, because hardness scales the membrane and chlorine damages it. On municipal supply we fit carbon pre-filters; on wells we make sure iron and hardness are handled first.
