Water Softeners in Innisfil: Alcona, Lefroy, Cookstown and Stroud
Across the lake from Keswick. Most of Innisfil is on hard Lake Simcoe water. Churchill is soft, and we will tell you so. We fix hard water with a Canadian-made softener and show you the hardness before and after.
How hard is Innisfil water? The official numbers
InnServices runs four systems: the Innisfil Lake Simcoe system (the Lakeshore and Cookstown, Lake Simcoe water treated at the ILS plant, about 26,600 people, with about 52% of its 2025 output going to Bradford West Gwillimbury) plus groundwater systems at Churchill, Stroud and Innisfil Heights. Rural areas outside them are on private wells.

Book well water testingInnisfil water: four systems, and one of them is soft
InnServices runs four drinking water systems. The big one is the Innisfil Lake Simcoe system, serving the Lakeshore and Cookstown with Lake Simcoe water treated at the ILS plant. It serves about 26,600 people, and the 2025 annual summary says about 52% of its 2025 output went to Bradford West Gwillimbury. InnServices lists its latest hardness at 126 mg/L, about 7.4 grains per gallon. That is hard, at the low end.
The other three are groundwater systems. Stroud is 130 mg/L, about 7.6 grains per gallon, hard. Innisfil Heights is 189 mg/L, about 11.1 grains per gallon, very hard. Churchill is 53.7 mg/L, about 3.1 grains per gallon, soft.
So here is the honest version. If you are in Alcona, Lefroy, Cookstown or Stroud, your water is hard and you already know it. A softener fixes it. If you are on the Churchill system, your water is soft. Do not buy a softener. We will tell you that on the phone.
Rural areas outside the four systems are on private wells, and the shoreline has cottages and year-round homes on lake intakes. Those start with testing, not a softener quote.
- Softeners sized for Innisfil's hard lake water
- Hardness read before install and after, at your kitchen tap
- An honest no for homes on the soft Churchill system
- Carbon for the late summer lake taste
- In-depth well water testing for rural wells
- Lake intake systems with UV on the shore

Softeners for Alcona, Lefroy, Cookstown and Stroud
The Lake Simcoe system runs a long way: InnServices' 2025 report names the Alcona and Lefroy reservoirs, the Friday Harbour water tower, and the Goldcrest and Cookstown standpipes. At 126 mg/L on that system and 130 mg/L in Stroud, the water is hard at the low end. A compact softener does the job, programmed from the reading at your tap and checked with a reading after.
Innisfil Heights is a different story at 189 mg/L, very hard, and gets a softener sized for it. Churchill, at 53.7 mg/L, gets no softener at all.
Lake water also brings taste. On July 23, 2025, the LSRCA advised of Microcystis algae in Kempenfelt Bay, and InnServices runs a harmful algal bloom monitoring program. The treated water is monitored and safe. For the earthy late summer taste, a carbon stage on the main line is the fix, not a softener.
- Compact softeners for low-end hard water
- Carbon for the seasonal lake taste
- RO at the kitchen tap
Rural wells outside the four systems
Cookstown is on the lake system and Stroud is a municipal groundwater system, so neither is a private well. The rural concessions between them, and the farms and estate lots outside the serviced areas, are on private wells. Those need in-depth well water testing first: bacteria, nitrates, iron, sulphur and hardness.
Then we treat in order: sediment, iron and sulphur, softener, UV, only the stages your results call for.
- In-depth well water testing first
- Well treatment sequenced from the results
- UV with follow-up bacteria testing
Lake intakes from Gilford to Big Bay Point
Innisfil's shore faces two bays. Gilford looks out on Cook's Bay, Big Bay Point sits on Kempenfelt Bay, and cottages and year-round conversions along both draw from intakes or shallow wells. We test first, then size each system for the property's flow and lay it out so it drains in the fall; the stages are on our cottage and lake water systems page.
Seasonal homes get a spring start-up with a bacteria test and a fall shutdown booked together. If you are weighing lake water for drinking, start with can you drink Lake Simcoe water at the cottage.
- Intake systems on Cook's Bay and Kempenfelt Bay
- Tannin and carbon stages where the water is coloured
- Paired spring start-up and fall shutdown
Before and after. That is the proof.
We do not ask you to take our word for it. Before we connect anything, we read the hardness at your tap. That is your baseline. We install, program the softener from that number, and read the same tap again. You see both readings. The after number tells you it works. It tells us it is set up right.
