What the system actually does
Municipal water arrives disinfected with chlorine or chloramine, and that is what most people taste and smell. The Premium Whole Home Filtration System sits on the main line and passes every litre through a bed of activated carbon that adsorbs chlorine and chloramines along with the trihalomethanes, volatile chemicals and heavy metals that ride with them. Honest Water also rates it for lead reduction.
Unlike a cartridge filter, the tank backwashes itself on a schedule to lift and re-settle the carbon bed, so there is nothing to unscrew and replace every few months and no pressure drop as a cartridge clogs. A 12-volt transformer runs the valve.
It is designed for municipal and lake supply. Honest Water specifies that hardness, iron and sulphur be removed ahead of it, so on hard York Region water it is normally paired with a softener on the same bypass, and on a well it follows the Zentec filter. For the kitchen tap we add reverse osmosis behind it.

What it will not do
Every system solves one set of problems. We would rather tell you the limits now than have you find them later.
- Hardness and scale, which need a softener beside it
- Iron and sulphur on wells, which must come out first
- Bacteria on wells and lake intakes, which need UV
- PFAS, nitrates and dissolved solids at the drinking tap, which is reverse osmosis
