Water Softeners in Keswick: Hard Lake Simcoe Water, Fixed
Our home base. Keswick water is hard, and you already know it from the kettle and the shower glass. We fix it with a Canadian-made softener, built in Barrie, and show you the hardness before and after.
How hard is Keswick water? The official numbers
Lake Simcoe water treated at York Region's Keswick Water Treatment Plant, which has its own lake intake, separate from the Georgina plant. The Town of Georgina distributes it. Homes outside the serviced area may be on private wells.

On a shoreline well or pulling straight from Lake Simcoe? Hardness is the least of it. Start with well water testing, then we treat what is actually there.
Book well water testingKeswick water is hard. You already know it.
Keswick's town water comes out of Lake Simcoe and is treated at York Region's Keswick Water Treatment Plant, which has its own intake on the lake, separate from the Georgina plant that serves Sutton. York Region's latest figure for the Keswick system is 150 mg/L, about 8.8 grains per gallon. On Health Canada's scale, 121 to 180 mg/L is hard. York Region calls it hard. So do we.
You do not need anyone to come out and discover that. The white crust on the tap, the spots on the glasses, the kettle that rattles, the shower glass you scrub every Saturday: that is hardness. A water softener ends it. That is the fix, and it is the main thing we install in Keswick.
The water itself is safe. It is treated, monitored and meets Ontario's drinking water standards. Hard water is not a health problem. It is a scale problem, and scale is what wears out water heaters, dishwashers and tankless units years early.
Before we connect anything, we read the hardness at your kitchen tap. That is your baseline. We install, program the softener from that number, and read the same tap again. You see both readings. That is the proof.
- Based in Keswick, on the same water you are
- Canadian-made softeners, built in Barrie, sized to your household
- Hardness read at the kitchen tap before install and after
- Programmed from your reading, not factory defaults
- Carbon filtration for the late summer musty taste
- Shoreline wells and lake intakes start with in-depth well water testing

Softeners for Keswick's hard lake water
At 150 mg/L, about 8.8 grains per gallon, Keswick sits in the middle of the hard band, not at the soft edge of it. That is enough to crust a showerhead in a few months and to build a layer inside the water heater every year it runs. A softener sized to that number and to the people in your house stops it at every tap.
Sizing does not need a sales visit. Your street, your household and your bathrooms are enough for a fixed written price. On install day the baseline reading sets the program, so the softener regenerates for Keswick water and your family, not a factory setting meant for somewhere else.
One honest note on salt. Keswick water already carries 39.1 mg/L of sodium, and a softener adds some more. If anyone in the house is on a sodium-restricted diet, we can run the softener on potassium chloride, or put a reverse osmosis tap at the kitchen sink for drinking water.
- A softener sized to your household and Keswick's hardness
- Baseline and after reading at the same tap
- Service and reprogramming on an existing softener
The late summer taste is the lake, not a fault
York Region lists Keswick among the communities most affected by lake algae taste and odour in late summer and early fall. The water stays safe. It just tastes and smells musty or earthy for a few weeks. A softener does not touch that. A carbon stage on the main line does, and it takes the chlorine taste out at the same time.
Iron is not a town water issue here: York's table shows 0.005 mg/L for the Keswick system. So if your Keswick water is leaving orange stains, you are probably not on town water, and that is a well question, not a softener question.
- Whole-home carbon for musty taste and chlorine
- Softener and carbon on one bypass
- Reverse osmosis at the kitchen tap
Cook's Bay and the Maskinonge River shoreline
Homes outside the serviced area, and plenty along Cook's Bay and the Maskinonge River, draw from private wells or straight from the lake. That is a different job. Nobody tests that water but you, and hardness is the least of it. Start with in-depth well water testing: bacteria, nitrates, iron, sulphur and the rest. Then we treat what is actually there, which on a lake intake usually means staged sediment and UV, laid out on our cottage and lake water systems page.
Seasonal places on Cook's Bay get a fall shutdown and a spring start-up so nothing freezes and the water is checked before the first long weekend. Before you fill a glass from the lake, read can you drink Lake Simcoe water at the cottage.

We do not ask you to take our word for it. Before we connect anything, we read the hardness at your tap. That is your baseline. We install, program the softener from that number, and read the same tap again. You see both readings. The after number tells you it works. It tells us it is set up right.
